The personal files of all Dagestan government members will be reviewed, asserted the republic’s head, Sergey Melikov. According to the BRIEF Telegram channel, he publicly admitted that the republic’s authorities "underperform when it comes to combating terrorism."

Melikov equated the protests against mobilization in Dagestan in September 2022, the unrest at Makhachkala airport in October 2023, and the terrorist attacks on June 24, 2024, in Makhachkala and Derbent.

"This is the third manifestation of attempts to destabilize the situation in the republic," said Melikov.

The terrorist attacks in Makhachkala and Derbent took place on the evening of June 24. According to journalists, armed individuals attacked Orthodox churches, synagogues, and a traffic police post. The Baza Telegram channel reported that the number of fatalities has reached 23, including 18 law enforcement officers and 5 civilians. Security forces killed 5 terrorists.

Baza also claims that Osman and Adil Omarov, the sons of Magomed Omarov, the head of the Sergokalinsky District in Dagestan, were involved in the attack, along with the official’s nephew. Omarov was expelled from the United Russia political party, relieved of his duties, and arrested for 10 days on charges of disorderly conduct. Another attacker, Ali Zakarigayev, was the former chairman of the Just Russia party branch in the Sergokalinsky District. He was expelled from the party after his death at the hands of security forces.
