Natalia Komarova announced her resignation on her Telegram channel on May 30.

"I have made the decision to transition to a new role. Since my first day in Yugra, I knew that I was at home. This confidence is shared by each of you. I believe that your faith in me has helped us make Yugra a leading region. Yugra residents work diligently at home and contribute to the restoration of new territories with the same dedication as our fellow countrymen participating in the special military operation on the frontlines,"В wrote Komarova.

Natalia Komarova led the Khanty-Mansi Autonomous Okrug (KhMAO) for 14 years, during which several scandals occurred. In 2023, she disclosed a corruption scheme in the construction industry during a live broadcast, using phrases such as 'we have such a fun thing here' and 'everyone is on the scheme.' A few months later, she remarked, "We were not preparing for this war; we do not need it." Komarova was reported by a social activist from Tyumen, Yuri Ryabtsev. The local government claimed that the official’s statements were taken out of context.

Natalia Komarova also faced criticism from animal rights activists. When questioned about homeless animals, she suggested that a local woman take care of the problem herself, stating that as governor, she would not 'build palaces'В for dogs.

Since the onset of the war in Ukraine, Natalia Komarova has been a vocal supporter of Putin. On Victory Day, she wore camouflage to congratulate residents of the Donetsk People's Republic. Prior to the presidential elections, she personally visited apartments in Yugra and encouraged locals to vote.
