The criminal case against Natalia Guseva came to light in July 2024. She was prosecuted for posting an anti-war comment on the social network Odnoklassniki.

"I fully agree with every word spoken from the heart! Putin must immediately withdraw troops from Ukraine, stop killing the Ukrainian people and its statehood, as well as his own people, and stop endangering Russia’s statehood itself!" Guseva wrote.

The prosecution sought a three-year sentence in a minimum-security colony, despite the linguist who conducted the analysis failing to identify any specific words in her comment that could "discredit"В the army.

Natalia Guseva is a veteran human rights defender with 40 years of experience and a former member of the Zlatoust Deputy Assembly. She previously headed the regional branch of Golos, a movement advocating for voters’ rights and independent election monitoring.

In February 2024, Guseva was fined 700,000 rubles for spreading "fake information"В about the army after posting about the airstrike on the Mariupol Drama Theater.
