Dozens of posts featuring names and photos of missing relatives have been shared on VKontakte. In the comments, residents appeal to Russian and Ukrainian authorities, as well as international organizations, to help evacuate their loved ones. According to locals, approximately 3,000 people remain in the Sudzhansky District.
The campaign was organized by Lyudmila Prilutskaya in collaboration with relatives of the missing. Most participants know where their families are located and have already attempted to evacuate them from the border areas.
In addition, Kursk Oblast residents have created a bot that allows users to submit information about missing individuals, which is then added to a compiled list of those being searched for. As of January 22, the list contained information on 680 people.
In January 2025, residents criticized a list of missing individuals published by Ombudswoman Tatiana Moskalkova, which included names of those searching for relatives, evacuees, and even a young woman who had been killed. Following the backlash, Moskalkova discussed the search for missing persons in Sudzha with Ukrainian Ombudsman Dmytro Lubinets. Acting Governor of Kursk Oblast Alexander Khinshtein later reported that the number of missing individuals was 1,174 — double the figure in the initial list.
