The Ministry of Natural Resources of Komi reported that the Transneft-Sever Company had tried to hide the pollution of the Kychanyu River after the oil spill on October 15. The agency confirmed that half a ton of oil had got into the water during the accident on the Ukhta — Yaroslavl Oil Pipeline. The hazardous substance maximum allowable concentration was exceeded eight times.
In addition, the Ministry of Natural Resources explained in response to environmental defender Ivan Ivanov that the organization had to eliminate violations by November 30 and voluntarily pay 6.5 million rubles, the amount of damage caused to the Komi forests.
The oil spill on the Kychanyu River, which is a migration route and a spawning area for salmonid fish, occurred on October 15. The reason was the destruction of the Ukhta — Yaroslavl Oil Pipeline. Vladimir Uyba, the head of the Komi Republic, considered that there was no threat to water bodies. However, activists are sure that it is necessary to initiate a criminal case on water pollution (Article 250 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation).
