Natalia Sharkaeva, a teacher of Russian language and literature, has spoken out about the unfair pressure she experienced at School #52. The school's management removed her from the classroom management position in the ninth grade. She faced criticism and was called a "traitor" during pedagogical council meetings. The same stance was assumed by the parents’ committee because her class chose not to participate in collecting products for the Russian troops in Ukraine. Sharkaeva was also removed from the school's website teacher gallery.
In March, residents of Ulyanovsk published an open letter objecting to the renaming of the school after Major Alexander Shishkov, who died in Ukraine. Instead, they proposed that the school be named after former principal Radiy Sharkaev. Natalia Sharkaeva, his widow and a teacher at the school, supported the appeal against the renaming. It's worth noting that the school, known as "Sharkaev’s," was led by Radiy Sharkaev for over 50 years.
The parents of the ninth-graders wrote a letter defending Sharkaeva and submitted it to the Ministry of Education of the Ulyanovsk region and the city Department of Education.
Elsewhere, there have been similar protests against the naming of streets, schools, squares, and other places after the military who died in Ukraine. In the Vladimir region, residents protested the authorities' plan to rename Paris Commune street in honor of Roman Kutuzov, another fallen in the war in Ukraine. Earlier, school #9 was renamed after Kutuzov.В
Locals took their complaints to the prosecutor's office and sued the Vladimir City councilors who hadn't consulted with them.
