According to Wagner mercenaries, the Molkino base will cease its operations on July 30, following which the group will move to its "new deployment areas." The flags of Russia and Wagner will be transferred to the PMC's memorial complex in Goryachy Kluch.
In the past winter, Kuban eco-activist Andrei Panyushkin published stories about the Wagner base in Molkino. Then, a fire broke out in his house. Panyushkin believes that his anti-war stance might have offended someone associated with the military base in Molkino.
Wagner has a sizable cemetery for its soldiers in the Krasnodar region. In July, activist Vitaly Votanovsky counted 776 burials at the graveyard, which had appeared over the course of eight months. Approximately 20 relatives of those buried at the military cemetery have requested the exhumation of the bodies and their reburial in their respective hometowns.
On June 23, Yevgeny Prigozhin, the head of Wagner, declared a "march of justice" towards Moscow in response to a conflict with the Ministry of Defense. Within a day, the Wagner forces occupied Rostov-on-Don and advanced through the Voronezh and Lipetsk regions. Prigozhin was charged with armed mutiny.
The mercenaries had stopped approximately 200 kilometers away from Moscow. Belarusian President Alexander Lukashenko stated that he had engaged in talks with Prigozhin, leading to the latter's decision to halt the "march of justice." Consequently, the criminal case against Prigozhin was dropped, and some PMC fighters were relocated to Belarus. Lukashenko asserted that Belarus would not intervene with the activities of the Wagner unit.
