The Kurgan Oblast Duma passed the law on "protecting pregnant women from being inclined toward artificial pregnancy termination"В in two readings.
The fines range from 5,000 to 10,000 rubles for Russian citizens, 10,000 to 20,000 rubles for foreign nationals, 25,000 to 50,000 rubles for officials, and 100,000 to 200,000 rubles for legal entities.
The initiative to introduce fines for "encouraging abortions"В was proposed by the Union of Orthodox Women of Kurgan Oblast, who cited the "hybrid war against Russia"В as justification. Governor Vadim Shumkov supported the proposal.
Similar laws have been adopted in at least 14 regions of Russia. Just a day earlier, an initiative of this kind was submitted to the Astrakhan Oblast Duma.
