On February 14, Czech television informed that Vladimir Uyba, the head of the Komi Republic, might be placed on the national sanctions list. According to local media, Uyba could be the owner of a commercial firm registered in Prague and a private school in Karlovy Vary.
At a State Council session, Viktor Vorobiev, leader of the Communist Party faction in the regional legislature, urged the Russian authorities to investigate Uyba. He pointed out that the governor had not listed his Czech companies in his anti-corruption declarations.
"Vladimir Uyba, I think, should finally decide who he wants to be: a Czech entrepreneur, the mayor of Rovenky [a town in the Lugansk region], or the head of the Komi Republic," Viktor Vorobyov said.
This is not the first time that the Komi governor is suspected of dishonesty concerning his declarations. In 2020, "Important Stories"В found out that Vladimir Uyba had failed to declare at least 10 properties in the Moscow and Kaluga regions, which belonged to his wife Galina Kazakova.В
In May 2020, the 7x7 media and Novaya Gazeta published a joint investigation into how doctor Vladimir Uyba had built a career as a public official and became a regional governor. It includes a story about the business in the Czech Republic, which Uyba denies.
