The Pechora City Council

The Pechora City Council removed Mayor Valery Serov from office. He had held the position for over a year while in pre-trial detention on bribery charges.

Earlier, Viktor Vorobyov, a deputy of the Komi State Council, revealed that the prosecutor’s office discovered that Serov’s wife had undeclared shares in a British company. Following this, the political council of United Russia in Pechora supported the mayor’s removal.

Serov, the former head of the regional FSB (Federal Security Service) office, had served as mayor since 2020. He was detained in 2023 while planning to join the war effort in Ukraine. Later, he requested deployment to the front from pre-trial detention but was denied.

Investigators allege that Serov received 4 million rubles for awarding contracts to an entrepreneur without conducting tenders. This was classified as large-scale bribery (Article 290 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation).
