The European Federation of Journalists and the Trade Union of Journalists demanded to drop the charges and release the journalist Marina Ovsyannikova. In the evening of March 14 during the live broadcast of the programme «Time» the editor of the First Channel, came out with a poster against military operations in Ukraine and propaganda on the TV channel. On March 15, the Investigation Committee began a pre-investigation review against Ovsyannikova. Lawyers said that the whereabouts of the journalist is still unknown.

«The European Union of Journalists pays tribute to the courageous act of Marina Ovsyannikova, who acted like a real journalist in the face of censor imposed by the Kremlin and the propaganda machine of the Putin regime. The ethical act of Ovsyannikova reminds journalists that their task is to serve the truth and public interests, but not the special interests of those who have power», — commented the Secretary General of the organization, Ricardo Gutierrez.

Ovsyannikova recorded a video for Russians, in which she said that she was ashamed of her work on the state channel. She noted that she kept silence in 2014 and allowed people to be «zombified». According to the editor, her parents from Ukraine and Russia have never been enemies. She called the special operation a «crime».
