The Primorye Court granted the defense's motion and canceled the decision to extend Alexander Gabyshev's forced treatment in a mental hospital. The court committed him there without a forensic examination, referring to the "recrudescence." According to Alexei Pryanishnikov, the case was sent for retrial.
Shaman Gabyshev became known for his march on Moscow in order to "expel Putin." He was detained by the police and accused of publicly calling for extremism. Psychiatric examination found signs of mental insanity in Gabyshev. In 2021, he was committed to the hospital.
Forced treatment is one of the ways to put pressure on oppositional citizens. For example, in 2021, the court committed the ex-head of Navalny's headquarters in Murmansk, Violetta Grudina, to the hospital, considering that the activist had coronavirus, at the request of Rospotrebnadzor (the Russian Federal State Agency for Health and Consumer Rights). At the same time, the young woman provided the court with a negative test. At that moment, Grudina was trying to submit documents for registration for the election of deputies to the Murmansk City Council.
The forced hospitalization was opposed by Grudina’s supporters, who launched a flash mob. In their opinion, this was how political pressure was exerted on the activist because of her desire to participate in the elections. As a result, the hospital billed her insurance company for 200 thousand rubles for forced hospitalization.
