Law enforcement detained Deputy Igor Karpov and his acquaintance, conducting searches at their homes and seizing documents and communication devices.Â
According to investigators, in October 2022, the suspects assaulted a local resident at an auto service in the town of Lakinsk. They struck him multiple times in the face and body and "discharged the contents of a fire extinguisher"Â on the victim.
Local media outlet Zebra discovered that one of the suspects, Igor Karpov, is a CPRF deputy who signed a military contract and fought in Ukraine. The deputy’s acquaintance, Daniil Zhuravlyov, also participated in the war and ran for office.
Nikolay Malyshev, the second deputy implicated in the hooliganism case, was detained by Vladimir Oblast security forces in October. According to the Investigative Committee, he stole over 1 million rubles from the bank account of a participant in the war in Ukraine and kept three men in slavery at his car wash service for two years and nine months. Between 2003 and 2005, Malyshev served in the Airborne Forces in Chechnya and later studied law at the FSIN Institute in the 2010s.
