The court has sent the newborn murder case back for further review. Yelena Belaya and Elina Sushkevich remain in custody.

According to investigators, in 2018, Yelena Belaya allegedly asked Elina Sushkevich to administer a lethal dose of magnesium sulfate to a severely premature baby, marking him as stillborn to avoid spoiling the hospital's infant mortality statistics.

In August 2020, a jury acquitted the doctors, but the verdict was overturned following an appeal by the Prosecutor General’s Office. In 2022, the majority of the jury found Belaya and Sushkevich guilty, sentencing them to 9.5 and 9 years in prison, respectively.

In April 2023, four jurors claimed that a judge from the Moscow Oblast Court had entered their deliberation room and attempted to persuade them of the doctors’ guilt. Defense lawyers subsequently requested the verdict's annulment and the assignment of a new judge.
