Municipal deputies from Russian regions have published an open letter to the citizens of the country. They condemned the "attack of the Russian army on Ukraine" - a military special operation, the beginning of which was announced by President Vladimir Putin on February 24. They are convinced that "the citizens did not give him such a mandate." More than 100 deputies from Moscow, St. Petersburg, Mari El, Volgograd, Samara, Novgorod, Ryazan and Tula Oblasts have signed the letter.
"The war with Ukraine will lead to catastrophic consequences. Thousands of people will die, be injured and crippled; cities of the land dear to many Russians will be destroyed. Our country is facing theВ world community's condemnation, isolation, rising prices and poverty. Hopes for a good life in Russia are being crushed before our eyes," the deputies wrote.
They called on citizens not to participate in aggression against Ukraine and reminded that "only mass popular condemnation could stop the war."
